KANPUR: Pursuing her degree in Politics and International Relations from University College London (UCL), England, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav’s elder daughter Aditi, 21, is braving the scorching summers to campaign for her mother Dimple Yadav in UP’s Mainpuri district.
Seeking votes for her mother, Aditi has been addressing small gatherings of locals for almost a month now in the high-profile constituency.
Videos of her campaigning for her mother are also going viral on social media, where she has 405k followers on Instagram and 317.1k followers on ‘X’.
Dimple is seeking her second consecutive term from Mainpuri, the seat earlier held by SP patron and her father-in-law Mulayam Singh Yadav.
This time, she has been fielded against state minister Jaiveer Singh of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shiv Prasad Yadav of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).
Aditi’s father Akhilesh is contesting elections from Kannauj Lok Sabha seat.
According to the members of her team, Aditi leaves the house early in the morning. Like a seasoned politician, she greets elders and women with folded hands while waving at children and youths of her age.
In return, she is greeted with garlands, bouquets, while a few would place a ‘pagdi’ (turban) on her head.
While initially, she used to share stages with her mother Dimple, with elections approaching she can be seen criss-crossing the muddy stretches of the villages alone, going from house to house, seeking vote for her mother.
Mainpuri goes to polls on May 7, in the third phase.
To many, Aditi reminds them of Mulayam Singh Yadav, who would always have a pretty smile on his face while interacting with people, said Alok Shakya, district president of Samajwadi Party from Mainpuri.
“Aditi is in India on summer vacation from London. But, given the elections, she is making full use of her vacation and addressing about half a dozen meetings daily,” said Shakya.
