Dramatic moment knife-wielding mugger stabs two cops in UK tourist hotspot

Rahman stabbed PC Joseph Gerrard five times in the neck and chest and PC Alannah Mulhall in the arm during the frenzied attack on September 16, 2022.

A clip released by the Met showed one officer’s arm covered in blood and Rahman trying to stab the constables in a brutal assault.

The attacker stabbed Mulhall through her arm so far that the blade cut to the bone and almost went through to the other side.

Rahman was jailed for life last year with a minimum 20 years for the attempted murder of the male officer and GBH with intent of the female.

The fearless officers have now been nominated for a Police Federation Police Bravery award.

The pair’s nomination said they put their own lives at risk to protect their colleagues.

Superintendent Jill Horsfall said: “Alannah and Joseph showed amazing courage and tenacity in the way they responded to the incident which was violent and unfolded in a matter of seconds.

“Thanks to their actions and the actions of the other officers a violent man was removed from our streets and prevented from causing further harm.

“My congratulations also go to the other officers who aided Alannah and Joseph who also represent the finest of police officers.”

Bodycam footage from the September 16, 2022, attack shows how a member of the public alerted cops to a man with a knife after being robbed of his phone and power bank.

As they approach Rahman he begins to walk away before pulling out a blade and legging it.

In the ensuing pursuit cops scream for “immediate assistance” before an officer hones a Tazer on the knifeman.

But all hell breaks lose when he begins swinging the weapon towards officers, slashing Mulhall’s arm before burying the blade multiple times into Gerrard.

Despite the serious injury, Mulhall remained calm and composed and was able to call for assistance from colleagues.

On their arrival the man was still armed with a knife and multiple attempts to detain him failed as Taser, spray and baton strikes did not subdue him.

Rahman appeared fixated on trying to cause harm to Gerrard and lunged at him stabbing him five times causing injuries to his neck, arm and puncturing his lung.

It was only through the work of paramedics that the chest injury did not have more serious consequences.

Mulhall can be seen in the video being led away by a colleague with blood seeping through her white shirt following the stabbing.

Police said both were hospitalised and needed surgery, with them only returning to their roles last year.

Other footage shows Rahman pinned on the ground by cops after being nailed several times by a 50,000 volt Taser to bring him down.

He was later taken to hospital for injuries and kept under armed guard.

Attack came as officers were helping spike victim

The knife rampage came as the two injured Met officers dealt with a woman who had collapsed after being spiked with a drug at a club.

The Met said: “In the early hours on 16 September 2022, MPS PCs Alannah Mulhall and Joe Gerrard were responding to a call at Leicester Square where a male had been arrested for spiking and a victim was being cared for.”

While the officers were dealing with the woman, members of the public alerted the cops to a man nearby brandishing a weapon.

One by-stander said: “The officers detained the man and as they were searching him he suddenly produced this long weapon with a blade at the end.

“He stabbed the female officer first with the weapon and then he was Tasered.

“But he then got up and produced a silver knife from inside his trousers and stabbed and slashed the male officer in the neck.

“Moments later there were police coming from everywhere and the suspect was Tasered repeatedly again and again by reinforcements.

“It was shocking to see, especially at this time with the Queen’s Lying-in-Wait and Funeral and the sad mood of the country.

“There are armed police all over central London at the moment and it is lucky he was not shot dead.”
