NFL announces dates and matchups for international games in 2024

The 2024 NFL schedule was rolled out on Wednesday and the league officially announced the matchups and dates for its international games. Five games will take place outside of the United States with one taking place right out the gate in Week 1.

The international slate will begin in Week 1 with the Green Bay Packers taking on the Philadelphia Eagles at Corinthians Arena in Sao Paulo, Brazil on Friday, September 6. This showdown will be unique for multiple reasons as not only will it be the first NFL game to take place in South America, but it will be the first Friday night game on opening weekend in over 50 years. This battle between these two NFC squads should be interesting as it will feature a Packers team that is trending up with quarterback Jordan Love taking on an Eagles team that completely fell apart towards the end of last season.

Beginning in Week 5 on October 6, we’ll get three straight weeks of games taking place in London. The New York Jets vs. Minnesota Vikings matchup in Week 6 will be followed up by the Jacksonville Jaguars facing the Chicago Bears in Week 7, both games emanating from Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The London games will conclude in Week 8 with the New England Patriots battling the Jaguars at Wembley Stadium. London has become a home away from home from the Jags given that they are owned by Fulham F.C. owner Shad Khan, so them once again playing back-to-back games there isn’t a surprise. This three-week slate will be interesting considering that each matchup will feature a rookie QB from this year’s draft with the Vikings’ J.J. McCarthy, the Bears’ Caleb Williams, and the Patriots’ Drake Maye.

The international games will wrap up in Week 10 with the New York Giants meeting the Carolina Panthers at Allianz Arena in Munich. Both franchises have Germany as their international markets, so this isn’t too much of a surprise. The matchup itself…doesn’t look good on paper considering that these were two of the worst teams in the entire league in 2023. But we’ll see if either of them makes major improvements by the time this game rolls around.
