Princess Anne Visits London Community Riding School

In a gesture of support for community-based equestrianism, Her Royal Highness (HRH) The Princess Royal, Vice-Patron of The British Horse Society (BHS), graced the Wormwood Scrubs Pony Centre. Accompanied by BHS President Martin Clunes, HRH Princess Anne visited the renowned central London riding school on February 8th, 2024, to witness firsthand its impact on local youth.

Established 35 years ago under the guidance of Founder Sister Mary Joy, Wormwood Scrubs Pony Centre has become an integral part of the local community. The center’s mission revolves around harnessing the profound connection between humans and horses to enrich the lives of young individuals.

At the heart of Wormwood Scrubs’ initiatives lies the Changing Lives through Horses (CLTH) program, an innovative approach aiming to reintegrate disadvantaged youth into their communities through equine therapy and riding. This initiative opens doors to experiences that many participants may have never imagined, fostering confidence and practical skills while nurturing a deep appreciation for these majestic animals.

The visit saw HRH The Princess Royal engaging with young participants of the CLTH initiative, observing riding activities and displays that showcased their enthusiasm and passion for equestrianism. She also took the time to meet with key staff members, including BHS President Martin Clunes, and presented them with a plaque commemorating their remarkable achievements.

The British Horse Society continues to champion initiatives that promote inclusivity and access to equestrian education, recognizing the profound bond between humans and horses as a catalyst for personal growth and community cohesion.
