The All England Lawn Tennis Club at Wimbledon is putting a display of embroidered art put together by a charity in Battersea.
The exhibition, entitled ‘Everybody Champions’ has been created by the Katherine Low Settlement (KLS) – celebrating its 100th Anniversary – a community-led project spearheaded by artist and KLS chief creative officer, Adalberto Lonardi.
The charity has produced four vibrant and expressive wall hangings which celebrate diversity and inclusion through the lens of sport and tennis.
The hangings measure 200cm x 126cm each and were created by members of the three programmes KLS runs – the ‘Love to Learn’ children’s educational programme, the KLS Elders’ programme and ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) educational programme.
The four wall hangings were crafted in the community workshops at KLS, with each one designed by combining elements from 40 drawings made by 60 members of the KLS community, during intergenerational workshops.
The project enlisted the expertise of four professional textile artists, each leading the creation of one of the wall hangings. These artworks are embarking on a London tour which starts at The Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Museum.

Sarah Gibb, chief executive of KLS said: “The “Everybody Champions” project is a testament to the power of community collaboration and artistic expression, fostering unity and celebrating diversity through the medium of textile art.
“We do encourage everyone who can to visit them and if possible, make a donation to our 100th anniversary building fundraising campaign.”
As well as the tennis museum, KLs itself will put them on display, in Battersea High Street, as will Battersea Power Station.
