LONDON FASHION WEEK 2024: BRIDE ON ORAGNZA AND HEADPHONE CABLES

Tish Weinstock wears the demi-couture silk organza wedding gown with reconstituted headphone embroidery and calfskin slipper hand-painted by Rosie Mennem.

Conner Ives’s show was called “Swans.”According to Vogue Business, it wasinspired by debutante balls and featuring a cast of Ives’s friends, from schoolmates to muses Tish Weinstock and Ella Richards. Weinstock closed the show as she walked out with an iPod and wired headphones, dressed in a bridal gown made from organza and headphone-wire lace that was found discarded in a headphone production facility in Kolkata.

The model donned an organza sheer strapless gown that had embroideries weaved with discarded white headphone cables. If one closely looks at the ensemble, the leaf like designs are not thread work but cable work.

The reconstituted wires was a step towards the amalgamation of technology and fashion. It also highlighted the idea of sustainability as an important factor in the fashion industry. Ives’s designs this season comprise of  upcycle material, vintage textiles, etc.

Years ago Tish had gothic wedding ceremony where Ives styled her too and walking for the designer was a full circle as per the model. Speaking to Vogue, Tish said, “ever since my gothic nuptial two years ago, I’ve been trying to think about how to recreate that moment, without terrorising my husband like I did the first time around. So when designer de jour and sustainability king Conner Ives asked me to be his bride for his autumn/winter 2024 show, all I could say was: I do. Conner had made one (!) of the dresses for my own wedding, and so this felt like a full-circle moment.”

Netizens hailed the process of fabricating the dress and also were left in awe of the innovative fashion sense. After all, it is all about taking risks, innovating and inventing.
