Lee Baynton, from Leigh, is the official owner of the world record for the fastest marathon in an inflatable costume after completing the iconic 26.2-mile race on Sunday.

The 39-year-old has previously run the London Marathon five times but wanted to do it with a twist this year.

Despite the added weight and restrictions of the costume, Lee beat tens of thousands of other runners as he crossed the line in a very impressive three hours, 21 minutes, and seven seconds.

The previous world record stood at four hours and 15 minutes.

After crossing the line, Lee was presented with an official Guinness World Record certificate.

Lee said: “I wasn’t sure how it would go at first as I had only done a few practice runs in the suit.

“Luckily, it was quite a cool day which really helped, although it still got really warm inside the dinosaur.

“The wind made it interesting as the tail and head kept flying around all over the place.

“But the run itself was amazing. It was my sixth time running the London Marathon, but this was easily my best experience.”

As well as breaking the record, Lee was also raising cash for Little Havens to support their work caring for babies, children, and young people with complex and incurable conditions.

Lee has raised £246 for Little Havens and is aiming to now reach his £500 target after breaking the world record.

He added: “Every mile of the course I had people cheering and high fiving me, it was such a boost. The outfit definitely helped as you couldn’t miss me coming along.

“Everywhere I went people were shouting ‘go dino’. I am tempted to wear it every year now.

“I have run quite a few marathons over the past few years, so I wanted to do something a bit different, plus it was a good opportunity to raise money for Little Havens too.

“They are a local charity to me and do a lot of great work for children and young people. They are a great asset to the community.”
