West Ham 1-1 Tottenham: London derby spoils split

Published

on

Tottenham Hotspur scored early for once but gave up the lead and failed to find a second goal in a 1-1 draw at West Ham United on Tuesday.

Spurs had conceded the first goal in five of the previous six Premier League games before scoring in the fifth minute at West Ham. The Irons would level the line and surprisingly not allow another goal despite not keeping a clean sheet since January 2 and allowing 24 goals in the following 10 PL outings.

Derbies can be unpredictable and weird, you know?

It was scrappy, there were chances, and frenetic passages of play didn’t stay far from this one, as Tottenham scored early, West Ham answered, and the Irons countered with vigor over the final hour or so. Spurs were very good out wide but did not get a typical strong game from Heung-min Son, while counterpart Michail Antonio was also quiet. David Moyes also did not make a single sub in the game despite this fixture being sandwiched between weekend outings. The points split was fair despite Spurs control of the ball, as West Ham knows what to do when it’s deprived — or sacrifices — possession.
